The following is an excerpt from The Way Home:

"For each of us, the journey Home is as individual and unique as we are. There is no predetermined time, place or age that we all embark on the pilgrimage. There is no magic number of incidents that need to occur before we stumble across the path of conscious living. What usually happens is that we receive a wake up call. Some experience so profound, traumatic, overwhelming or tragic occurs and the resulting pain sears its impression in our minds, flesh or hearts and burns so deeply that the agony becomes far too strong to repress or ignore any longer. Right there, right at that moment, we reach the turning point, the point of crisis.

John F. Kennedy said, "When written in Chinese, the word ‘crisis’ is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity." At that crossroad of crisis, at that fork in the road, one avenue leads to the danger of further unconsciousness, the other to the opportunity of self-discovery. By choosing the latter we step onto the path that leads us Home, to the Self.

Until I was in my late 30’s I walked the path of danger, closing my eyes to the fact that I was responsible for everything that I experienced in my life. But eventually, after my knees hit the floor just one more time, I began to realize that I was the common denominator in my recurring problems. I began to sift through my past with a fine toothed comb and during a long period of immersion in self-development courses and a deepening spirituality, I came to many startling and enlightening revelations. I began to wake up.

Buddha was asked if he was a god. He replied, "No, I am not a god." Then he was asked if he was an angel and he responded, "No, I am not an angel." Finally he was asked, "What are you then?" He answered, "I am awake."

Waking up, living consciously and living my life with my eyes wide open has brought me Home. Home to the closest connection with the people in my life and my higher power than I have ever known. Home to the work I am meant to do that makes a difference and touches the hearts and souls of others. Home to living as fully as possible in the gift of the present moment.

I still catch myself sometimes, walking through the guilt-ridden halls of yesterday or anxiously visiting the worst-case scenarios of tomorrow. But having missed far too many of life’s precious moments already, I no longer tarry in either place for long.

Learning to be fully present and live authentically has been a difficult process. To not only accept responsibility for, but also to fully embrace where I have been each and every moment, has taken work, practice and the commitment to keep moving forward, no matter how ungodly things have looked.

This book is for those of you who, like me, have chosen to walk the inner path in order to experience greater fulfillment and find your way Home. I know many of you are searching for "something more" than you have experienced to date, for a deeper meaning and purpose to your daily lives. I meet many of you in my seminars that yearn for a more soulful life because you are certain there is far more to it all than what can be achieved and attained. And there is.

I have written this book to help you find your personal, unique way Home. Each chapter includes exercises to provide you with the opportunity for reflection, an absolute necessity on the journey of self-discovery. It is here, in the empty spaces provided for answers, that you will paint the canvas of your life from hereon in."
